How you opt in

Opt-in happens on our website, burlingtonbreadbox.com, before checkout. The screenshots below show every step as a customer sees it.

Step 1. Tap “Claim a $1 loaf”

Every order button on the website opens the text message step below before the customer reaches checkout.

Step 2. Choose whether to receive texts

The customer sees two checkboxes. Both are optional and neither is ticked in advance. The “Continue to checkout” button works whether the customer ticks one box, both or neither. The exact words on screen are:

Want texts about your loaf?

Texts are how we confirm your delivery time and send you a photo of your loaf on your porch. They're optional: leave both boxes blank and you can still buy a loaf, and we'll email you about your delivery instead.

☐ Text me about my order and delivery (the delivery day, a photo of the loaf on my porch, and one question about how it was) at the mobile number I enter at checkout. I agree to receive automated text messages from Burlington Bread Box.

☐ Also text me bake announcements, the weekly loaf offer and occasional neighbourhood news. I agree to receive automated marketing text messages from Burlington Bread Box.

Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message frequency varies (about 1 to 4 messages a week). Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. Questions: text (336) 446-9578. See our Privacy Policy, Terms and how our texts work.

Step 3. Enter a mobile number at checkout

The customer then enters their mobile number on our Stripe checkout page, which repeats the text message disclosure beside the payment button. A phone number is required to buy, because a home delivery needs a contact number, but giving it is not agreeing to texts: we text that number only if the customer ticked a box in step 2.

Step 4. Confirmation text

A customer who ticked the first box receives this confirmation as their first text:

Burlington Bread Box: you're opted in for order and delivery texts. Msg frequency varies. Message & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.

Texting us first

Anyone can also text us at (336) 446-9578. We reply to the message they sent. We start a weekly subscription only after the customer replies YES to a text that sets out its terms.

How we keep consent records

Each customer's answer is saved with their order: which boxes they ticked, the version of the wording they saw, and the date and time.
